Error messages

The Micro5 sends back error messages via the interface which are visible in the upper display. These messages are useful for understanding the current operating mode of the Micro5 and, if necessary, help to establish a diagnosis by giving indications which can be interpreted. These messages are not sufficient to clearly and unequivocally establish the origin or cause of a problem. These are usually indications of the consequences of a failure, an error in the interpretation of the machining program or an inconsistent state. When a problem occurs, with or without an error text, it is essential to remedy the cause of the problem in addition to the problem resolution operations.

For example, a tripped circuit breaker is a concrete problem. Resetting it addresses the problem, but not the cause. The cause of the problem must be investigated and addressed (e.g. a short circuit). By repairing and removing the cause it is possible to permanently resolve the problem. If the cause is not found, the problem may reoccur.

The Micro5 control system (PLC) is capable of handling several modules (CNC, SCARA, peripherals, etc.) and monitors numerous parameters for each component.  The consistency of the signals and the processing of the ISO CNC program and of all the sensors and actuators are monitored. The messages displayed are only for necessary information and alarms.

Example of an error message

The error message is shown in the upper part of the Micro5 interface.

The messages are displayed as soon as they appear and then alternate and scroll one after the other.

  • The messages displayed in black are indications

  • Messages displayed in red are alarms

In principle, the majority of error messages have been translated and the message text can be interpreted directly and clearly. However, there are some cases where system messages are displayed with their fault code. These messages, classified and organized according to their code, are included and processed in the documentation of the control part (Beckhoff) which is available in the infosys.
