Conditions externes (température)

Some external conditions affect the machining performance. This must be taken into account and certain precautions implemented to reduce the effects of these conditions and obtain optimal performance.

Temperature

Temperature differences have an impact on machining precision. To achieve high levels of performance (precision), it is important to keep all components at a constant temperature and to limit differences between components as much as possible:

  • Machine as a whole (structure, frame, castings, etc.)

  • Moving parts (axes, slides, drives, etc.))

  • Machining spindle (internal bearings, tie rod, tool support, etc.)

  • Workpiece

  • Workpiece holder

During machining, heating of all these parts is inevitable, however, it is important that this is kept to a minimum. Controlled starting temperature conditions minimize deviations during the machining phase.

Nominal temperature

After transport or storage, the whole system must be within a nominal temperature range (20-25 °C) for at least 48 hours before using the Micro5.

Any variation in temperature has an impact on machining conditions and quality. Maximum machining precision is achieved when the temperature variation is minimal. A temperature variation of +/-2 °C is recommended.

Soft start and spindle temperature

The spindle is a sensitive component of the Micro5. The internal bearings ensure very high precision, but their temperature must be uniform and constant. In normal operation, when the Micro5 is in production, the whole spindle is at a higher temperature than the nominal ambient temperature. At this temperature, the bearings operate optimally and ensure maximum precision. During the warm-up phase, the forces on the internal spindle components are higher until all spindle components have reached their nominal temperature. Following a prolonged stoppage, or if the spindle indicates a temperature below 30°, a warm-up phase is recommended.

During the entire procedure, beware of suspicious noises (shocks, cracks, etc.) which could indicate damage to the spindle.

"Isothermal" spindle heating program

An automatic program is available to perform the heating cycle autonomously.
